    What happens in Vegas....
Well, I'm back from my week in Las Vegas. In a nutshell...

Stayed at Excalibur. Yay for medieval cheesiness.

Saw a Cirque du Soleil show - "Ka." OMFG! <3 All I can and will say is that I spent most of the show trying to pull my eyeballs back into my head. Scenes from the show have replayed in my dreams several times now (in color!)..that's how unforgettable it is. If you get the chance to see it, do so. Absolutely amazing.

Got a little drunk on a couple of screwdrivers. Eh, just a little. The end result was me trying (unsuccessfully) to rape Steve in the elevator. *coughcough*

skjfhjlfgaklsdfgdkfg OMFG the food sjfhkljgf askjdghak;dfgdkg. Ate an arm's weight in king crab legs and don't even get me started on the caramel flan fiasco.

It was cold. I mean COLD. Cold enough to snow, they said. Talk about extremes! When I was there for the 2005 Gathering I remember seeing a digital temp readout at 114 degrees..AT 8 PM IN THE EVENING. 118 was a safe bet as far as daytime highs went. Is the weather ever pleasant in Vegas or simply either hellishly hot or bitingly cold? That's what I wanna know.

We went to the Star Trek Experience where we shared a bubbling Borg sphere drink in Quark's Bar. A klingon asked me if I'd ever considered courting outside my species. I said "well..yes.." and indicated Steve. The klingon was vastly amused. Steve however was not.

The next evening Steve was propositioned by a prostitute while we were strolling on the Strip. Wtf? I get hit on by a Klingon and Steve gets hit on by a stiletto-wearing hooker named Spice? Only in Vegas, I tell you!

Did not do well on slots. Steve broke even. That's why they call it gambling and not winning.

Sparkly lights..sooo many of them..pretty...want to touch..

I want to gooo baaaaaaaaack! *flail*

As if they didn't traumatize kids enough the first time!
I saw Bambi 2 today. More like 1 1/2 but I digress. This movie is SADISTIC! Spoiler warning: in one scene little Bambi thinks he hears his dead mother calling to him. He runs toward the sound in tears...

..and it turns out to be a hunter using a deer call.

Bambi goes into full emotional shock at this point and just stares in terror at the hunter - who promptly sics his snarling dogs on the frozen fawn.

The father stag rushes in and screams at Bambi to run. Bambi does not, considering that he's in traumatic shock and all. So what does his father do? WALLOPS him with an antler HARD and sends the little fawn rolling end over end while screaming at him some more.

Um, I thought this movie was intended to sooth all the adults who were freaked out by the original movie as kids. Um, hellooooo?

    Another year gone?!
Yesterday was my birfday! I'm 27 now *smacks all the young whippersnappers with her cane* Steve took me to Captain Jack's for sirloin steak, king crab and wine. :) Admittedly I did get a little drunk. WHEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee

On another note Ambush molted a couple days ago. She's all shiny and new-looking now. Oooh, teh fuzzy. Yay n' all that stuff.

    RANT RANT RANT
We had a doxie female brought to the clinic today. She's unspayed, has a high fever, vaginal discharge and is really lethargic. Most certainly a pyrometra infection - this is a nasty infection of the uterus that is FATAL if not treated quickly. It's basically a womb engorged with pus. This my friends is what can easily happen when you do not spay your dog. How does a pyrometra kill? The infections builds until the uterus bursts and the dog dies of shock and necrosis. It is a painful, horrid, brutal, lingering way to die. How many unspayed female dogs get pyometra infections? One out of three. Dig on that a while.

Anyway the owner refused x-rays and any treatment aside from antibiotics due to cost. Can't afford it, he says. Even if we allowed him to make payments. Um, treating a bad pyo with just antibiotics is like trying to kill a grizzly bear with a toothpick. So in other words this dog is going to die an unimaginable death because the owner stupidly adopted a pet when he can't afford health care for it and was too foolish to have her spayed at a proper age. If you can't afford to spay a dog how in the hell do you expect to afford pyometra treatment or a c-section?!!? He thinks the 'biotics will work (despite the doctor's warnings) and wouldn't let us euthanize the dog to cut her misery short. IDIOT! She'll be dead within 24 hours.

Look, people. Shelters and rescues are overflowing with surplus animals, 30 percent of which are purebreds. Due to sheer overpopulation dogs and cats are being destroyed in shelters at a rate of..oh..around 20-30 million a year. That number isn't counting the 100's of thousands that die on the streets as strays. Statistics point out that out of every 10 dogs born only 3 find permanent homes, the number being only 1 out of 10 for cats! FIX YOUR PETS!

In a study on serious dog attacks over the last four years !!97 percent!! of the attacks were inflicted by intact (unspayed, unneutered) dogs. Furthermore a fatal attack by a fixed dog has never been documented or recorded. FIX YOUR PETS!

Purebreds have all but been ruined to varying degrees by people breeding their pets without doing any health testing. Most people assume that a purebred dog is a breeding quality dog regardless of it's genetic health. Ever hear of hip dysplasia? Thyroid problems? Glaucoma? Allergies? Why do you think these inherited diseases are so common in dogs? Because stupid people say "oh the dog LOOKS healthy..huh? What does 'recessive gene' mean?" and therefore continue to pass on the plethora of diseases. There ARE tests widely available that will prove whether a dog is or is not a carrier of these defects..but nah, that takes effort and some money. Who needs to worry about the future of the breed? (or lackthereof) when I wanna make money off puppies/think altering is cruel regardless of the research that says otherwise/want my kids to see the miracle of life, etc. (Mind you the breeders who DO have the tests done are viewed as snobs by the breeders who do not have them done.)FIX YOUR DAMN PETS!

An unspayed female dog has an 80 percent chance of mammary cancer and pyometra infection by age 8. The treatment for pyometra averages between $400 and $1000. Intact males get to enjoy 1 out of 2 odds on prostate problems and 1 out of 5 for testical cancer. Fixed pets readily outlive intact pets. FIX YOUR *&%$%@$#^%@ PETS, PEOPLE!

    End rant.

Teh pain, make it go aways
I fuckin hate migraines. HATE HATE HATE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE! Skull squeezing stomach imploding blurry-eyed clammy hell! I once had a migraine last 6 days without a hint of a response to whatever medication I threw at it..on day 6 I finally stumbled into the emergency room for help. Helloooooo morphine!

Ah, but now I have medical insurance that covers nearly all medications. The only stuff that works on most of my migraine attacks is $150 for 8 doses if you're not insured..but for good reason - this shit works! On my insurance it costs me $25. =D So today - day three of a runaway migraine attack - I had someone drive me to the doctor for a refill as I was incapable of operating heavy machinary myself. One dose and four hours of drugged sleep later here I am, gloriously pain free. Hungry, too..I can't eat during a migraine attack and soon as I woke up my tummy angrily informed me that it has been empty for over two days. Gotta eat light for now, though. Whole grain toast with apple butter and ginger tea. Is teh yum. (Although after two+ days without food stir-fried crickets would probably taste good.)

    Fooood glorious food
I'm eating whole lobsters for din din tonight, steamed with garlic. WOOT! Just two small ones - but they're new shells (recently moulted) so they'll be extra sweet and tender. The fishmonger had an 8 pounder that was probably 40 years old and had claws at least a foot long. That one..ugh. I didn't know if I wanted to eat it or declare war on it. >.>

    BABIES!
One of my rats - I.B. Nekkid, a hairless fawn - had three pups last night. Only three! I took her to the vet to make sure she wasn't retaining any but all seems to be well. Sigh. Three pups when I have 29 people on my rat waiting list. Oh well..at least it's a healthy three. :)

    New Years and stuff
Not a bad NY, if uneventful. I spent it at Steve's house watching the South Park marathon while sipping $70 champagne and eating Godiva chocolates. =) I'll spare you the details on how we rang in the new year once the champagne and chocolates were gone. }=D

In other news it looks like I'll be working as a vet tech once again. I had a nice break from the medical field while working for Disney but I'm feeling the itch to do more with myself. I intend to resume my work as a veterinaran tech - my old clinic is courting me again, I feel so special - while fighting tooth and claw for a position at Disney's Circle D, as per my 'animal dream job.' I'm a tough biotch..as long as there is espresso left in the world I can handle two jobs.

As far as Disney goes: Rain + holiday + crowds = evil guests. They all like...shifted when the rain arrived. Like werewolves. Eeee!

    OMG RAT CUTENESS
Calliope (a sky-blue self female, 1 year old) was playing attack-the-sock on the floor when she ran to where we sat, climbed Steve's leg to plop down on the back of the couch against his shoulder. She then YAAAAAAWNED at me. I luckily had my digi camera in my lap to look through some images and snapped a pic of her. I am so putting it on my rattery webpage.

    I like solid food.
After three days of illness - I'll spare you all the details - I'm finally able to eat solid food again. Nothing spicy or fatty mind you and only in small portions..but WOOT nonetheless. Three days of broth, toast and crackers made me go mildly insane.

Fed the tarantulas today. Ambush snubbed her thawed pinkie so I assume she'll be molting soon. Gem on the other hand tackled her crickets from clear across the terrarium. Yummy.

What did Santa bring me? Lessee..a fluffy robe and matching slippers..Burt's Bees stuff (*worship*)a cute plushie rat, a new dagger for my collection, a new Windstone sculpture (wolf sconce, so pretty!)and a mohair pullover sweater. My better half gave me a box of chocolates.

Not just ANY chocolates. These are the 'G Collection' chocolates, designed by a famous pastry chef and handcrafted/handpainted. Chocoholics have GOT to check these beauties out! http://www.travellady.com/Issues/January03/IsThereAnythingBetterThanGodivaChocolate.htm

They're almost too pretty to eat. Almost being the key word here. I'm allowing myself one chocolate a day and omg, each one is like a little mini orgasm. xD The banana fosters piece made my knees buckle, heheh. These chocolates cost $100 a pound but daaaaamn, the webpage alone makes me want to lick the monitor screen. =p~~~

Steve will recieve massive amounts of lovin' for his gesture. Oh yesss he will, precious.

    cheeeeeeeese glorious cheese
I was up until 4 am baking a chocolate vanilla swirl cheesecake. So..tired. But the cheesecake came out fine - decorated with handmade chocolate leaves and made with an oreo crust. Someone at work ordered it. (Yeah, I bake and 'sell' homemade cheesecakes for charity. You cover the ingredient cost and add $10 for my time. The $10 goes to Katrina relief.) Must have espresso e.e Need sleep but I have to go work a double shift as of 12 noon. Sleep is for mortals.

If she complains about it I'm going to thwap her with my cheesecake pan. o.x

    Uhh..yeah.
Jungle Cruise landed themselves a nice big fat guest complaint yesterday. An official one - filed at City Hall and everything!

The complaint? "The skipper drove the boat recklessly and did not watch where he was going. Our boat missed the waterfall by inches."

    Drove the boat recklessly?

    Missed the waterfall by inches?

    MISSED THE WATERFALL BY INCHES?!

    MISSED. THE. WATERFALL. BY. INCHES?!!11!?

    Mmm. Coffee.

On a side note I don't want to go to work today. I don't want to go on the cart! I feel haaaappy...
